I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and the accompanying musician was great. The Tour gave me a much better appreciation of Shane's music and lyrics. I would highly recommend this tour, excellent 🙂
Even if you're not a Shane McGowan fan this is a FANTASTIC, unique insight into the Irish rural life of his family, friends & himself from 1820-2023. It is also an enlightening insight specifically into Shane himself, told by his Community & friends from Carney & its environs in Co. Tipperary, covering where & how he was influenced to create such beautiful lyrics & rousing memorable music. All those we encountered on the tour were interesting, informed & delightful who spoke honestly & caringly about Shane. A wonderfully packed 4hours of getting to know a talented artist in his homeplace by those who knew him. Be sure to leave some time to visit the excellent Nenagh County Council Town Hall for information on other famous Co. Tipp folk also, its where the tour starts & ends. A huge thank you to Mike, Joe, Eleanor, Andy & Rosemary, definitey THE most engaged, interesting & informative friends & tour guides I've experienced. Can't praise this tour more highly for so many different reasons.
We went on the tour last Saturday. We were a group of 28 mixed ages from early 20’s to 60. We were celebrating my husband’s 60th Birthday with family and friends. We had an amazing day. Michael, Andy and the people at the stops/pubs have great passion and enthusiasm and made the day so special. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for a wonderful day. Jacinta
What a great day on the ‘Unraveling Shane McGowan tour’, a big thank you to Michael and Andy who were fantastic at sharing all their knowledge about Shane, would definitely recommend this tour for all of Shanes fans and followers of his life and love of Tipperary, his music, song writing and poetry, rest in peace Shane, you still live on in the surrounds of the river Shannon in Co. Tipperary, thank you for all you have given to us.
To all the wonderful people involved in last Saturday's Shane McGowan tour we just want to say a big thank you for a fabulous tour and commentary. We travelled from Cork and it was beyond our expectations from start to finish.
It was such a great experience and we enjoyed meeting and chatting to some of the locals.
We will definitely go back , keep up the brilliant work you are all doing in the community.
Thank you from Jo and Philip
Hi,
Big fan of The Pogues from back in the day.
Fair play to everyone involved in making this tour happen.
Look forward to coming back year on year to see it developing.
Let’s get rid of them car parking spaces by The Broad Majestic Shannon mural for starters.
And a new mural in Borrisokane as well …
Peace and Love

Really enjoyed 4 hour tour of Shane McGowans first 20 years of his life.
Michael was very informative and his passion comes through in the tour.
Andy played lots of Shanes songs and was friendly and attentive.
The refreshmants scones and sandwiches and the music in Ryans was excellent.
Cannnot recommend this tour enough for the fans of Shane McGowan as well as those who love art heritage and music
I went on the Unraveling tour on 16th May, early on in the tours history, with my brother and my son. (2 generations) and we all enjoyed the day equally. While we knew the songs beforehand, to hear them in their own setting and context, was a total education. Michael was such an informative tour guide and Andy, a most competent driver. We will definitely do the tour again. However, we might organise with a bigger crowd of us and it might be harder to get us home.😜
'We had a fantastic day on the Unravelling Shane tour. I've been a fan of Shane and The Pogues most of my life, so visiting many of the places that influenced Shane's songwriting, was fabulous. Michael's enthusiasm for the tour was unfailing throughout and even my husband (who likes some of the songs, but wouldn't call him self a fan) thoroughly enjoyed it. I've read all the books about Shane and The Pogues, but still learnt things I didn't know and made some new connections between things I thought I knew.
While we were travelling on the coach, the music that was played fitted in with the tour route perfectly and when we stopped at Johnny Ryan's pub, one of our group sang a brilliant version of Kitty.
The goody bags given to everyone were a great touch and I'll treasure mine. All said, I really recommend going on the tour to any fan and even non-fans will enjoy it.'
We really enjoyed the trip if I wanted to make suggestions to improve it I honestly couldn’t it was a fabulous experience.
Four of our group didn’t have much interest is Shane’s life or his music they just came along it was something to do during our break but that all changed they thought it was one of the most wonderful experience they ever had and now have an total appreciation for a genius they never knew about.
Finally on behalf of the group I want to thank you and Michael for sharing the details of Shane’s real life and character an experience we will never forget. We were lucky to have lived during his time on earth and then to walk in his footsteps last Wednesday is definitely one of life’s highlights.
Thanks to you Andy and Michael for what you did to make that experience possible.
