Cloughprior Cemetery    

 

Cloughprior Cemetery is the burial place of many of Shane’s beloved and inspirational grand-aunts and grand-uncles, the Lynch family.

 

Shane’s times spent on the family farm, the musical and storytelling sessions in their kitchen had a profound and everlasting impact on him, influencing so much of what he would go on to write and sing.

 

The Lynch family memorial stone here features all their names and a deeper analysis sheds much light a number of Shane's compositions. 

 

The cemetery is evoked in Sickbed of Cuchulainn: "Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground But you'll stick your head back out and shout we'll have another round!”
