Stop no. 10
Luska

Luska is one of the three locations featured in the “Broad Majestic Shannon” leg of the Unravelling Tour, and it held a special place in Shane’s heart from his many childhood visits. His family were frequent visitors to the area, as one of his beloved grand-aunts had made her home nearby.

The significance of Luska to Shane was such that he recommended it to artist Neil O’Dwyer as the ideal setting for his Nenagh mural, which depicts a rowboat moored at the lake’s edge.

Today, Luska remains a secluded and peaceful place on the shores of Lough Derg. It is a haven for wildlife, and during the winter months, breathtaking starling murmurations can sometimes be seen sweeping across the sky.
